Portrait Review for William by Lauren

William's project is based on activities that normal people do on a day to day basis. However, he has people dressed up as Kings and Queens doing the normal people activities. For his project, one suggestion I have is for the picture where he has the girl drinking a Starbucks, I think it would be cooler if he took this picture actually in Starbucks or in the drive through. Overall, I think that these images are very well done. :)

peer review for Ella Ogletree portrait

I like the photo of the girl holding the 2 solo cups. The gel creates a scene that may look like she is at a party and is being pressured/is pressuring someone else to drink something they shouldn't. The idea of being pressured to wear certain things in the 2nd photo is good, however i feel as if it could be more organized by moving the hands further away from grace's body to show her resistance to the pressures being put on her. I love the third photo and the concept that it portrays. The lack of saturation and monochromatic color creates an image that serves a purpose.

Chey Ann Portraits Review

What i like about Chey Ann's portraits is that they are very consistent. They all have constant lighting and fix well in the frame. There are a few of the photos that could be expanded to see the elbows and fix the model more into the center of the frame, like the smoke photo could be centered more and the covering the ears photo could be expanded to see more of the elbows.

I also think that Chey Ann could brighten the center of the photo and darken the edges to almost put a very obvious spotlight, even though there is one already. There is also the acceptance photo which could be in a different background such as maybe a sunset or some sort of environment.  I would like to add that in the depression stage she could try and make her cry for even more emphasis. Other then those things i think these photos are amazing.

Portrait Review for Lee Tritt

For the photo project Lee Tritt portrayed a theme of anger. He does this by adding a red film to all of his photos. This red gives a sense of anger. In all of the photos Lee has his model become angry. To scrunch the face and frown. The framing is good on all the photos but I think he could work on shots that weren't so close up. To make the viewer find the anger inside of the model instead of just showing them the anger. Two of the three shots are very similar, I suggest making a variety of shots. Try to portray anger in a different way instead of just the face.

improvements for Christian

He should work on making sure the photo does not have any unnecessary things in it like in the one of the kid in the bushes to make sure the house is not in it. Second, the one of the kid on the cooler next to the pool, you should make sure his foot is not cropped out. Otherwise I like the rest of them.

portrait review for lizzy by maddie

I loved your idea of athletic vs. classy. It was reflected really well in your photos. The diptych of Brooke could have more variation between the 2 photos. She could be doing a different pose or facial expression. Your out of studio photos could have more ties to your theme. Some of them seemed like they were out of place. I really liked the composition in your photos. They were all clear and edited well, and you didn't cut off any limbs. :)

portrait improvments for wynn

I loved the theme of Wynn’s pictures. And most of them had a good composition and were well shot. What she should change is in the picture with Parklyn have her show a little more emotion to go with the picture. Out of studio I would just make sure they are in focus. I like the idea she was going for with what she had her models doing. I would just retake the out of studios and make them more In focus

Gabi’s portraits

Gabi can improve her portraits by color correcting the background with different gel colors. She also used angles in her out of studio shoot which made her model seem smaller, she could do a contrasting or parrallel effect with the in studio models and either shoot up at them or shoot down on them.

Portrait review for Kenzie

For Kenzie’s portrait review, she had good ideas but she should focus on trying to connect all of the photos and make a designated theme. She had good models and well balanced colors, but her photos and models didn’t match each other. She should also focus on more evenly distributing the lighting on each photo and coming up with a designated theme that can be portrayed through all images.

Portrait Review for Aaliyah

In Aaliyah’s series of photos she has a very creative concept. Her overall theme supported the notion of gender roles but with a twist. The photos she shot in studio displayed girls in our class dressed as the traditional boy. Most of her photos are pretty consistent due to the use of shadows and blue gels. In the portrait of Paige dressed as a boy there was a shadow running along the left side of her face which, in my opinion, made the photo very authentic with her stoic expression. In the photo with Paige and Allie it was interesting to see how Paige’s shadow reflected on Allie’s face creating this sense of everlasting sadness. Her focus is very superb. That being said, I feel like Aaliyah should incorporate the same sense of sadness and emotion as she shoots her environmental photos because her portrait series needs to remain cohesive.

Portrait Improvements for Nathaniel

For my improvement post, I am talking about President Nathaniel's project and how he can fix and improve his photos. For my first critic, I would lower the light on Sahib a bit lower so that the background color looks even. I would also use a spotlight to go straight on so that the chair is the same color and so there is symmetry. My last critic is that Sahib changed his facial expression and to lean his chin us so there isn't a double chin which he complained about. But besides that I really like the photo. For the second photo in his project I would plus out the little white part on Clayton's phone. Besides that I truly love the emphasis on the aired and the facial expression. This picture is one of my favorites from this project. For the third photo I would only change too things. I would change what is on the screen of the computer to something that all students really hate. The other critic I would do it change the way he is sticking up his middle finger so that it is more of the focus of the photo. But everything else I love and love the message of the photo. For the fifth photo I would just fix the way Sahib's leg is up because it is an awkward position to be in but I love the access granted on the screen. Overall for the in studio photos are really good and show your theme really well.
For the outside studio photos, there are a few changes i would do to make the photos even better.  For the first out of studio photo with his little brother playing a video game. To tweet this photo I would shoot at a lower angle so that the arm is not cut off so awkwardly or have him sit up a bit to even out the line of the couch and the line of the door so that they are one continuous line. For the second photo I would not reshoot it and just keep it as it is. I truly love this photo and how he looks so involved in his work which really works with your theme. Good Job! For the last photo I would shoot farther away and not cut off part of his head and arm and maybe shoot lower so that we can see his facial expression. Or I would put something on the screen that attracts the viewers and be the counterpoint of the photo.  I love this project and I see so much potential with it. Keep up the good work.

Jaden Salami's Portrait Improvements

Overall, good work. However, there are some things we can work on...
For the lighter in studio one, I would remove any accessories such as watches and rings. Also, the brighter nail polish colors are sort of distracting, so maybe cover those up. I don't know how nail polish works though, so if you can't just cover it up, it is not that important. Rate 8/10.
For the in studio that has the orange background, try to get your models more in focus. Also, Sierra and Gabi's eyes look closed. I would crop the left side of the photo so you get rid of the excess orange light. You should tell your models where to look, since some of them are looking at the camera and some are looking away from it. Rate 6/10.
For the darker in studio, turn Gabi so she is facing inwards. Also make sure that they are all in focus. Not to beat a dead horse, but make sure to take off the jewelry. Rate 7/10
For the green in studio, just make sure to not cut off the feet or move the photo up in general. Cover up the logo on Lizzy's pants. Also you might want to not have socks in it. Rate 7/10.
I would not change much for your out of studio pictures. They are actually pretty good. Rate 9/10.
In conclusion, your project has potential. If you fix some of the little things, this should be an easy A. Overall project rate 8/10.

Paige Review Portrait Project

I really enjoyed Paige's images. You could tell she gave a lot of thought into what she wanted her model to wear and what pose she wanted her to do. My favorite picture has to be this one because the symmetry is easily spotted with the shadows. Her hair may not have been intentional; however it really fits into the picture. It's like if I were to visit paris, I'd spot someone dressed and styled exactly like her model. What she could of did better was she could have played with the lighting a little more or add a slight vignette. Overall, Paige's portraits looked very professional considering this is the first portrait project.

Portrait Improvements

Maddie

Maddie's composition of pictures were well shot and interesting. To improve, I think she should more clearly focus on a theme. It could be the way we express ourselves, through clothing or facial expressions. For example, the picture of Sierra with the paint on her body could express joy, excitement, or confusion. Also, the picture of Lizzy could represent anger, timidness, or apathy. Maddie's use of the gels really added to her pictures, and they may also help her focus on the emotion in the picture. Finally, the out of studio pictures were really well shot, but it might add to the picture if the focus on the picture of Joelle on the house was more in focus on Joelle and not the house.       Overall, honing in on a theme would really bring Maddie's composition together.

For Katie’s improvements, she should focus on making her theme a little bit more clear. For example, make the sports/dressy outfits more defined as sporty or dressy. I think the out of studio pictures should be retaken because it didn’t really match the theme that she was going for. Also, the lighting of the out of studio should make sure that it’s not too bright on the models’ faces.

portrait improvements

For my first two photos, I have had a boy. I need to use a girl as a model as well. I also need to mix up the facial expressions that symbolize anger. Also I am thinking about setting up a scene in the studio where someone would be angered; I feel like it could turn out very well.

portrait project

One  improvement I want to make is the focus on my first in studio pictures, I wish they would’ve been in more focus. I also wish I would’ve figured out a way to take away some of the light from the background on my second in studio pictures.

Portrait improvements

To improve my photos, I am going to fix the frame and the position in which I shoot them in. My ideas and lighting are good and they work well together, but I need to factor in the correct way to shoot the image and position the models to fit the frame.

Portrait Improvement

I will make my portrait photos better by going through all the small details and looking through which edit looks better. I will make sure that the photos are as even as possible and fit the frame well along with the vibrancy , lights, and darks.

Portrait improvements

To improve my photos, I would like to experiment with different types or lighting and gels. also to make sure that nothing significant is cropped out of the images, such as arms and above the waist.

Photo improvements

I want to improve my photos by making sure that nothing is cut off, especially feet. Also, sometimes the lighting is focused on one person, so I should make sure that that light is turned to a lower brightness or the light is backed up.

Photography Portrait Improvements

As far as my portraits go, one thing I want to improve throughout the whole project is working to improve the angles and make sure that everything is in focus and included in the picture. Also, more specifically as far as my 60s pictures go, I want to redo them to get full body pictures to aquire a full effect.

Portrait Project

To make my studio portraits better, I’ll focus more on my model. I have to get better at giving instructions and having my idea of what I want her to do, set into stone. I was a little all over the place and I had my necessities, but not every thing I wanted. Overall, next time I need to be a little more outspoken and less friendly. If you fail to tackle things, then you won’t get the desired results. I wasn’t giving strong enough commands and next time I’ll make sure I’m not afraid to.

Portrait Project

I want to improve my photos by considering the lighting and matching the shutter speed and ISO to compliment the type of photo I am trying to accomplish. I also want to work on the type of focus that brings out a deeper meaning in the photo.

portrait project Lizzy curran

I want to improve my skills by working with different lighting techniques and angles.

Portrait Project

Portrait Project
Clayton
Period 2

The way I want to improve my photos are to incoperate different lighting techniques. All of my photos use the same lighting except one and I want to change up the lighting for some. I also want to use different. background colors.

Portrait Project

I can improve by using more settings (seamless) and using less time for one shot. I need to be more effective with my time usage by spending more time communicating and setting up the model only one or two times, then taking 30 min to position the model correctly. I also need to use varieties of seamlesses.

portrait project

To improve my portrait project the pictures I would retake are the ones with Parklyn sitting down behind the table. I would either iron the sheet so it has less wrinkles in it. Or I would change the sheet color to a brighter color to continue the theme with the bright colors in my in studio pictures.

Portrait Project Improvements

To improve my photos, I will focus on framing my subject properly. I will look at the backdrop to make sure it is not creased. I want to be intentional with all the details in my photos. I will also make sure that all the moving parts in my photo are in focus.

portrait project

To better my my photos on portraiture, I need to adjust the lighting. I also need to know my plan for shooting which will help the process. In the first shoot I established good ideas to better improve the photos.

Portrait project

To improve my portrait project I will work on improving my lighting. Some of my pictures do not portray what emotion I want because the lighting is either too dense or too light. I also want to focus on making my shadows more purposeful. I do not want my shadows to be an after thought.

Parklyn Gardner
2/8/19
Period 2

I am going to improve my portrait project by shooting correctly in ISO. I shot in high ISO which influenced the clarity of my photos. I am not going change my model's poses but I need to shoot it right so it is clear enough.

Portrait Series

To make my studio photos better I need to have a better focus on my model in the center by lowering my aperture and increasing my shutter speed in case I or my model moves. For my studio photos I have the lighting I desire, but I just need to perfect my focus on my model and I will be fine.

portrait project

to make my in studio photos better, I need to focus the lighting more on the person in the middle. I need to center the people more. In my environmental shots, I need to shoot at a better time of day for better lighting.

Portrait Project Improvements

To make my project better, I plan to spend more time on my environmental shots. I will shoot in more locations and poses. I'll stop cutting off people's shadows or limbs in my photos. I've noticed that in some of my photos, I've also had a little bit of fuzzy focus.
